School is Upon Us

The school year is upon us. It’s a hustle-bustle time as volunteers are getting trained, interns are starting up, new ministries are popping up, and weekly outreaches to students are restarted. At a staff retreat in August we spent some time looking at 1 Corinthians 9.
Common Ground with Students
At the retreat we reemphasized our desire to establish one-on-one relationships with students. We committed ourselves to running great Campus Life clubs for one purpose: to develop relationships with students. To, as Paul calls it, find common ground to stand on with students. How do we do that? We do it by attending school sporting events, going to lunch on campus whenever possible, providing trips and events where we can spend long periods of time with them, and even by volunteering in the school cafeteria.
Spread the Good News
But we all agreed that this activity with students is worthless without bringing the Good News. We committed to doing everything we can to bring the news of Christ to these students.
When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some. I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings. - 1 Cor 9v22-23 (NLT)
