Lord, come quickly. But, thank you for your patience.

I don’t know about you, but there are times when I feel as if my whole being is aching for Christ’s return. Sometimes it hits me when I watch the news or struggle through a relational issue. But, it definitely hit me this morning.
Cory was talking about a boy he meets with, Cameron. He told us that this boy just feels unwanted. His dad didn’t even want to drive across town to see him at Christmas. Cory’s heart is breaking for Cameron because he wants Cameron to see that he is valuable and loved by God. And my heart just cried:
Lord, why do you leave us here on this earth where we treat each other horribly. You promise to come and take us away to the home you have prepared for us!
And a passage from 2 Peter 3 began rattling around in my head:
The Lord isn’t really being slow about His promise, as some people think. No, He is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent…our Lord’s patience gives people time to be saved.
-2 Peter 4: 9, 15
Lord, come quickly. But, thank you for your patience.
God, in His providential patience, is patiently waiting to return because we have work to do. There are people like Cameron, Sydney, and James in the detention center who may be eternally lost if God comes back now. We must actively pursue the lost, we must tell them about redemption offered through Jesus Christ.
And so we continue, despite our longing for His return, to reach out and evangelize the best we know how:
