Grace has always been God’s first move.

Offering his children grace has always been God's first move. Even back to the story of Cain and Abel in the Old Testament, you see God's grace being his first response. Cain's offering was not acceptable to God so God rejected it. Cain sulked over that fact. God asked Cain why Cain was so angry, reminding him: "You will be accepted [Cain] if you respond in the right way." (Gen. 4:7a). God gave Cain the information Cain needed to correct his mistake and the chance to do so. God also gave Cain a warning: "But if you refuse to respond correctly, then watch out! Sin is waiting to attack and destroy you, and you must subdue it." (Gen. 4:7b). Sadly, Cain did not heed his warning, and he was destroyed by his sin. Let us all learn a lesson from Cain. When God gives us a chance to repent and turn from our wrong -- and God always gives us that chance -- take it! Don't sulk in self-pity or comparison or rationalizing. Accept God's grace and repent from your evil way; otherwise, that evil will destory you and those close to you.
